1. Write properly and make sure you do not have any typos or spelling mistakes. R!t!ng lyk3 d!$ !$ n0t gud 4 ur syt3 (Translation: Writing like this is not good for your site). For most people, that kind of "writing" is hard to understand and your visitors will most likely give up and leave your site. Also, if you have many spelling errors or typos your content will not make much sense and/or you're visitors will think you're stupid (no offense).
2. Promote your site. Having advertising and/or affiliation programs are a great way to promote your site. You can also go to sites where you can receive free traffic or submit your URL to website directories.
3. Make sure you have lots of visitor content. If you have a personal site with your blog, that's great. But most visitors don't just want to read your blog- you need to give them something to do. Some good examples of visitor content are games, contests, tutorials, free graphics, etc.
4. Keep in touch with your visitors. Your site should have a comment page or something where your visitors can contact you and state their opinions about your site. Also, you should always reply to your visitors so that they know that you haven't abandoned your site.
